When Your 11-Year-Old Builds Jurassic Park
For three weeks, Theo has been mysteriously quiet about his latest Minecraft project. “It’s a surprise, Mom,” he’d say every time I asked what he was building. Today he finally unveiled it: a complete dinosaur theme park that would make Steven Spielberg weep with joy.

When Your 11-Year-Old Builds Jurassic Park
The guided tour lasted forty-five minutes. FORTY-FIVE MINUTES. Theo walked Marcus through every exhibit, explaining the differences between Jurassic and Cretaceous periods, why the T-Rex paddock needed reinforced walls, and how he researched actual paleontology websites to make sure his dino facts were accurate. Marcus’s face went through about seventeen different expressions of amazement.

The level of detail he put into this is incredible
My favorite moment was watching Marcus realize that his son knows more about prehistoric life than most adults. “Wait, velociraptors were only three feet tall?” Yes, honey. Welcome to Theo’s world, where accuracy matters and Hollywood lies.

Marcus learning that velociraptors were actually only three feet tall
The pride on both their faces was everything.

Three weeks well spent
Three weeks of work, countless hours of research, and one very impressed dad. Sometimes I forget that our chaotic little dinosaur expert is actually building something incredible in that brilliant brain of his.
