My Little Kitchen Helper (Circa 2012)
I was going through old photos today and found this series from when Sophie was two.

She was absolutely determined to ‘help’ me bake cookies, which meant climbing on her little step stool and getting into absolutely everything. That concentration face she’s making? She still makes the exact same expression when she’s focused on something important.

The aftermath of toddler ‘help’
Of course, her version of helping involved getting flour literally everywhere - on herself, on the floor, probably in her hair. But look at those tiny hands!

Those tiny helping hands
She was always so curious about what was happening in those big mixing bowls, stretching up on her tiptoes to peek inside.

Always curious about what’s cooking
Now at 15, Sophie still loves being in the kitchen, though thankfully with much less flour explosions. She’s actually become quite the baker - turns out all that early ‘practice’ paid off. Sometimes I miss those chaotic toddler days when the biggest drama was flour handprints on the cabinets. These days the kitchen drama involves her critiquing my plating techniques and suggesting we need better lighting for food photos. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, I guess.
