The man had printed articles, multiple browser tabs, and that look of pure excitement that I’ve learned to both love and fear.

Of course, I had to remind him of the evidence surrounding us

Reality check: exhibit A through F of previous ‘hobbies’

• the homebrewing equipment from 2019, the abandoned sourdough starter memorial, that one crooked shelf he built, and don’t even get me started on the vinyl collection with the broken turntable. The mechanical keyboards from this year are still the reigning champion of ‘things that actually get used.’

But honestly? I love this about him.

The excitement phase - he’s already planning projects

His enthusiasm is infectious, even when I know I’ll be reorganizing the garage in six months. At least this new interest looks like it might actually require some skill development. Maybe this one will stick around longer than Herman the sourdough starter.

Who am I kidding - I’m already mentally preparing space for whatever equipment this hobby requires. The cycle continues, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
