Four and Fabulous

This morning Sophie woke up and announced she was “finally four and ready to be a real princess.” The Rapunzel costume I stayed up until midnight finishing (with seams that are definitely not Pinterest-worthy) was apparently exactly what she needed to feel official.

She spent the entire morning spinning in circles, declaring that her hair was “the most beautiful in all the land” despite it being a $12 wig from Party City. When I pointed out that the dress was a little crooked, she looked at me like I’d suggested the sky wasn’t blue. “Princesses are perfect no matter what, Mommy.” Fair enough, kid.

The spin that ended in a tumble. She got up and did it again immediately.

Marcus has already declared this the best birthday party planning he’s ever witnessed, which translates to “I’m so glad you handled all of this.” But watching her pure joy as she spins until she’s dizzy? Worth every wonky seam and late night with the sewing machine. Four years old and already teaching me that confidence beats perfection every single time.

Now if someone could explain to her that chocolate cake is not an appropriate breakfast food, that would be great. Though honestly, on your birthday, maybe it should be.
