When Your Garage Becomes a Bug Laboratory

👨‍💻 Marcus 🦕 Theo

Marcus went out to grab his drill this afternoon and made quite the discovery. Apparently while we’ve been focused on Sophie’s guitar practice and my workout schedule, Theo has been conducting serious scientific research in the garage.

When Your Garage Becomes a Bug Laboratory

shows the moment of discovery - Marcus’s face is priceless.

Turns out our future paleontologist has been collecting specimens for what he calls his ‘summer research project.’

The evidence

The evidence

The kid has labeled everything with scientific names he looked up online. There are beetles, a cricket choir, and something he swears is ‘definitely not dangerous’ but won’t let me get close enough to verify.

The explanation

The explanation

Theo explain his entire operation to Marcus, complete with feeding schedules and habitat requirements. Marcus went from ‘what is this chaos’ to ‘actually this is pretty impressive’ in about thirty seconds.

The pride

The pride

That’s my boy - charming his way out of trouble with pure enthusiasm.

I’ve negotiated the bug lab down to one corner of the workbench and a maximum of five jars. Theo acted like I was shutting down NASA, but he agreed. The garage is Marcus’s domain anyway, and apparently he’s fine sharing it with Theo’s scientific pursuits. Just another day in the Hartwell house where we never know what we’re going to find.
