The Things We Do For Love
Theo burst into the kitchen this afternoon wearing his dinosaur costume and carrying what he announced was ‘the most amazing beetle ever found in our backyard.’

His enthusiasm was… infectious is not the right word. Overwhelming? That works.
I’m trying really hard to be the mom who encourages his scientific curiosity, but y’all, I do NOT do bugs.

Marcus was dying laughing behind the camera while I attempted to look interested in Theo’s detailed explanation of beetle anatomy. The kid knows more about insects than I know about… well, most things.

The compromise: the specimen jar lives on the counter where Theo can observe it, and I can admire it from a respectful distance.

safe distance achieved
We’re calling it a win for both science and my sanity. Marcus says I deserve an award for not running away screaming. I said that’s what good moms do - we face our fears in dinosaur costumes and kitchen lighting.
Anyway, if anyone needs me, I’ll be googling ‘how to encourage your child’s interests when they terrify you.’ Asking for a friend.
