When Your Teenager Calls You Bestie (And You Try Not to Cry)
Yesterday Sophie and I went to Target for “just a few things” (we spent $147 and came home with everything except what we actually needed). But somewhere between the clothing section and the makeup aisle, something magical happened.

She was showing me this top she wanted when her friend Madison walked by with her mom. Sophie waved and said, “Hey! This is my mom - well, my bestie really.” BESTIE. She called me her BESTIE in front of her friends. I played it so cool. I was the picture of casual motherhood. Inside? I was SCREAMING with joy.
We came home and did a full Target haul on the living room floor, trying on clothes and sharing opinions like actual friends.

She asked to borrow my gray hoodie for school tomorrow. I said yes immediately and then had to excuse myself to the bathroom to have a tiny emotional moment. My teenager likes me enough to call me her bestie. This is everything.
Marcus walked by during our fashion show and just shook his head with that “my wife and daughter are the same person” look. He’s not wrong, and honestly? I’m not mad about it. If Sophie’s going to turn into anyone, I’m glad it’s me. Even if that means my closet is no longer safe.
