Today my baby turns eleven, and apparently with that milestone comes the divine right to critique my fashion choices.

I came downstairs this morning in what I thought was a perfectly acceptable summer outfit - floral top, navy shorts, mom-on-vacation vibes. Sophie took one look at me, put her hands on her hips, and delivered the verdict: “Mom, your outfit doesn’t match.”

The worst part? She was absolutely right. Pink and green florals with navy blue shorts? What was I thinking?

When did my eleven-year-old develop better fashion sense than me? When did she start noticing these things? More importantly, when did she get brave enough to call me out on them?

I see so much of myself in her lately - the confidence, the opinions, the way she’s starting to notice and care about how things look. She’s becoming this little person with her own sense of style, her own ideas about what works and what doesn’t. It’s thrilling and terrifying all at once. Happy birthday to my beautiful, opinionated, fashion-forward daughter who keeps me humble one outfit critique at a time.
