Second Grade Already?

I swear she was a baby yesterday. This morning Sophie marched into the kitchen, announced she could pack her own lunch (she could not, but points for confidence), and posed for her first-day photo like she owns the world.

Second Grade Already?

Second grade feels different. She’s not my little kindergartener anymore – she’s this whole person with opinions about her outfit and very specific ideas about which backpack matches her shoes. When did she become so… independent? I’m proud and terrified in equal measure.

Marcus keeps reminding me this is what we want – confident kids who can handle the world. I know he’s right. But watching her walk toward that school bus this morning, backpack bouncing, not even looking back… my heart did this thing where it swelled with pride and broke a little at the same time.

Seven years old and already teaching me that letting go is the hardest part of loving someone. Second grade, here we come.
