Out of the Mouths of Babes

👩‍⚕️ Elena 🎭 Sophie

So we’re at Target yesterday, just Sophie and me doing our usual grocery run. I’m checking my phone while she’s in the cart, and this sweet older lady comes up and starts chatting with Sophie about her tutu. You know how it goes - strangers love talking to cute toddlers in tutus.

Well, this little angel of mine looks right at the lady and announces, “Mommy takes pictures of herself a LOT.” With emphasis on the LOT. The lady glances at me, then at my phone, then back at Sophie with this knowing smile. I wanted to crawl under the Pop-Tarts display. The worst part? She’s absolutely right. I do take pictures of myself a lot. I spend more time perfecting my angles than I care to admit. But hearing it from my two-year-old’s mouth to a complete stranger? That’s a level of public accountability I wasn’t prepared for. Sophie’s been extra chatty about everything we do lately. Yesterday she told the mailman that Daddy “makes weird noises when he cooks.” Marcus was thrilled. I’m starting to think we need to have a conversation about what we share with strangers and what we keep in the family. But honestly? She’s not wrong about the selfies.
