New Year, New Attempts at Adult Life
So here we are, five days into 2011, and I’m already questioning my resolution to “sleep more.”

New Year, New Attempts at Adult Life
Like, who was I kidding? I have a six-month-old and I’m working night shifts. Sleep is a luxury I gave up somewhere between Sophie’s 3 AM feeding and her 5 AM “let’s play” session.
Marcus, on the other hand, has decided this is the year he learns to cook.

The skeptical audience
I’m sitting here with my coffee watching him attempt scrambled eggs while holding our daughter, and honestly? I’m impressed by the ambition if not the execution. The man can barely make toast without setting off the smoke alarm, but sure, let’s add infant multitasking to the mix.
My other resolutions are equally realistic: plan our wedding (terrifying but necessary) and be the best nurse/mom/fiancée I can be (ambitious much?).

Multitasking level: expert
But watching Marcus present his slightly charcoal-colored eggs like he just won a cooking show? Maybe we’re all going to surprise ourselves this year. At least Sophie seems unimpressed by all our grand plans – she’s got her priorities straight.
Here’s to 2011: the year we pretend we know what we’re doing while figuring it out as we go. Some things never change.

Resolution #1: partial success
