When Your Teenager Actually Wants to Talk

🎭 Sophie

You know those moments when your teenager actually looks up from their phone and wants to have a real conversation? That happened today.

Sophie came home from school with that look - the one that says friend drama is happening and the world might be ending. I did what any good mom does: I got out the good cookies and waited.

It’s funny how the kitchen island has become our unofficial therapy couch.

Something about having snacks available and not making direct eye contact makes the hard conversations easier. She started with the usual ‘nothing’s wrong’ but twenty minutes later, she was telling me everything about some ridiculous friend group situation that honestly sounds exhausting.

I love watching her work through problems out loud. She’s so much like me it’s scary - she needs to talk it out, gesture wildly, and have someone really listen. Sometimes being a mom means just sitting there with cookies and letting them figure it out. Also, I may have gotten some pretty good intel about what’s really going on at school. Don’t tell her I said that.
