First Grade: She Chose Her Own Outfit
Sophie starts first grade on Monday and insisted on choosing her own outfit for photos. I present to you: pink tulle skirt, rainbow stripes, mismatched socks, and light-up sneakers. She told me this combination is “beautiful and practical” because the shoes help her run faster at recess.

I compared this to last year’s kindergarten photo and the difference is staggering. Same sweet face, same dimpled smile, but she’s grown three inches and gained approximately forty opinions about everything. Last year I picked out a simple sundress and she wore it happily. This year she has THOUGHTS about fashion, and apparently those thoughts involve as many colors as possible in one outfit.

My mini-me and her bold fashion choices
Here we are together on our new front porch - yes, I’m still in shock that we actually bought a house with a real front porch. Sophie keeps asking when we can have lemonade stands and I keep pretending I haven’t already researched the best folding table options.
She’s so proud of her outfit choice and honestly? Good for her. Six years old and already confident enough to wear exactly what makes her happy. I wasn’t ready for this level of independence but I’m here for it.
