Marcus decided this morning that he was going to make Theo dinosaur pancakes. Not just any pancakes - SHAPED like dinosaurs. I should have known this would be entertaining when I heard him muttering about ‘structural integrity’ and ‘batter viscosity’ like he was engineering the Golden Gate Bridge instead of making breakfast.

The first attempt looked more like abstract art than a stegosaurus, but Theo’s face when Marcus presented it? Pure magic.

He pointed at that misshapen blob of pancake and declared it ‘the best T-Rex ever’ because apparently my son has inherited his father’s generous interpretation of reality.

By the time they were done, the kitchen looked like a flour bomb had gone off and Theo had syrup in his eyebrows.

Theo's reaction: pure joy. Marcus's expression: questioning his life choices.

Marcus was so proud of himself for ‘nailing breakfast’ that I didn’t have the heart to point out that cleanup was going to take longer than the actual cooking. This is why we usually stick to cereal, but watching these two bond over culinary disasters might be my new favorite Saturday tradition.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to figure out how to get pancake batter off the ceiling. Don’t ask me how it got there - I’m choosing to live in denial.
