When Your Garage Becomes a Secret Laboratory
Marcus went to the garage this afternoon looking for his old socket wrench set. What he found instead was Theo’s secret bug laboratory - complete with dozens of glass jars, handwritten labels, and what appears to be a surprisingly sophisticated classification system.

When Your Garage Becomes a Secret Laboratory
Apparently our 11-year-old has been conducting ‘important research’ out there for weeks. The jar labels range from scientifically accurate (‘Coleoptera - found under deck, 5/15/26’) to adorably Theo (‘Really Fast Black One - escaped twice’).

His organization puts Marcus’s hobby corner to shame, which is saying something.
Marcus stood there for a full five minutes just taking it all in. The kid had commandeered his workbench, several shelves, and somehow even incorporated the old homebrewing equipment as bug habitat infrastructure.

His labeling system is better than my filing system
When I asked Theo how long this has been going on, he shrugged and said ‘Since spring started, obviously. That’s when the good bugs come back.’ Obviously.
I think Marcus is torn between being impressed by Theo’s dedication and mildly concerned about what else our son might be secretly organizing in other parts of the house. The shed is next, isn’t it?
