This morning my baby turned ten and immediately informed me that ‘double digits means I’m basically an adult now.’

I tried to keep a straight face while he explained his new grown-up status, but the kid was wearing his favorite dinosaur shirt and had chocolate milk on his chin from breakfast. Very adult indeed.

The best part? When I reminded him that adults don’t usually sleep with stuffed animals, he got very serious and said ‘Well, Stego is more of a roommate than a toy, Mom.’

I can’t argue with that logic. If having a stegosaurus roommate isn’t peak adulthood, I don’t know what is.

Ten years of this kid and he still surprises me daily. He’s my quiet observer, the one who notices everything and saves up the best observations for random Tuesday mornings. Yesterday he asked me why grown-ups always say ‘how was your day’ but never really wait for the answer. Kid’s got a point. Sophie just rolled her eyes and said ‘here we go with the deep thoughts’ but even she was trying not to smile.

Double digits, here we come. Though between you and me, I’m not ready for him to actually grow up. But don’t tell him I said that – he’s practically an adult now.
