Ten Years

Ten Years

👩‍⚕️ Elena 👨‍💻 Marcus

October 18, 2011. Ten years ago today, I married that scrawny nerd from Mitch’s Tavern who I told had terrible music taste. He proposed with a ring he’d been saving for while I was four months pregnant, sitting on our tiny apartment couch eating Chinese takeout. Most romantic moment of my life, and I’m not even being sarcastic.

Ten Years

I carried Sophie down the aisle at sixteen months old because she refused to walk and frankly, I wasn’t about to argue with a toddler on my wedding day. Marcus stepped on my dress during our first dance and we both burst out laughing. It’s still my favorite photo from that day – not the posed ones, but the moment we remembered that weddings are supposed to be fun.

Still can’t believe she said yes

Ten years. A house in Apex. A second baby who nearly broke us before he put us back together stronger. A pandemic that kept us home for months but somehow brought us closer. Night shifts and day jobs and a golden retriever who thinks he’s a lap dog. Marcus still brings me coffee in the driveway when I get home at 7 AM, and I still think his music taste is questionable, but I love him more now than I did at 22.

Happy anniversary to the man who holds the camera, makes the pasta, and somehow still looks at me like I’m the best thing that ever happened to him. Ten years down, forever to go, mi amor.
