👩‍⚕️ Elena 👨‍💻 Marcus

Seven years ago today, Marcus took me to Cup A Joe for our first real date. I ordered black coffee, he got some complicated drink with extra everything, and we talked until they kicked us out at closing. Tonight we recreated it at home - takeout from our favorite place, wine instead of coffee, and the same conversation that somehow never gets old.

Seven Years

The hardest year made us stronger. When we were in counseling last year, Dr. Reeves asked us what we were fighting for, and I couldn’t answer right away. Tonight, watching him tell the same story about work that he’s told three times this week and still finding it funny, I know exactly what we’re fighting for. This. The ordinary magic of choosing the same person every day.

He held my hand across the table and said ‘here’s to seven more’ and I thought: this is what it looks like when you choose to stay. Not just in the good moments, but especially in the regular Tuesday night ones. The kids are at my parents’ for the night, the dishes can wait until tomorrow, and I’m married to my favorite person in the world.

Happy anniversary to us. Still can’t believe he puts up with me. 💕
