Pinterest vs. Reality: A Marriage Story

I have a Pinterest board called ‘Creekwood Lane Dreams’ with 400 pins. Farmhouse sinks. Gallery walls. Those perfect built-ins that look like they grew out of the wall. The vision was clear: we would transform this house into a magazine-worthy haven of domestic bliss.

Three weeks in, reality has arrived with IKEA furniture still in boxes and a collection of lamps that look like they came from different decades. Also different planets.

Marcus hung his first shelf today. ‘It has character,’ he announced proudly, stepping back to admire his handiwork. Character is apparently the design term for ‘visible lean.’ I said nothing because I love him and also because I was busy taking a photo to document this moment for posterity. And possibly evidence.

Some days Pinterest wins. Some days you get a crooked shelf and call it rustic. We’re learning that home isn’t about perfect styling – it’s about the person who hangs your shelves with enthusiasm, even if they defy the laws of physics in the process. Though next time I’m definitely hiding the level.
