Merry Christmas from the Hartwell house, where I am currently 38 weeks pregnant and approximately the size of a small whale.

Tamales and Priorities

But you know what? I can’t see my feet, but I can definitely see this beautiful plate of Abuela Rosa’s tamales, and honestly, that feels like the right priority right now.

Sophie has been Abuela’s little helper all morning, and watching her tiny hands work the masa while Abuela tells her stories in Spanish and English is melting my very pregnant heart. Marcus has taken about forty-seven photos of this moment because apparently documenting every tamale is very important to him. I’m not complaining - someone needs to capture this before I go into labor and forget how magical this Christmas feels.

I know next Christmas we’ll have a baby in our arms (holy cow, that’s terrifying and wonderful), so I’m trying to soak up these last few weeks of Sophie being our only little one. Even if soaking up involves sitting on this stool because standing for more than ten minutes makes my back scream. Tamales and baby kicks - this is the good stuff right here.
