Meet Mimi (Apparently She Lives Here Now)

So we have a new family member. Her name is Mimi, she’s Sophie’s age, and she has very specific requirements about where she sits, what she drinks, and apparently whether the car windows are cracked just right because she gets motion sickness.

Sophie announced Mimi’s arrival this morning by setting an extra place at the breakfast table. Not just any place - it had to be the specific chair next to hers, with the small pink plate (not the blue one, Mimi doesn’t like blue), and a cup with exactly two sips of apple juice. When I asked Sophie where Mimi came from, she looked at me like I was the crazy one and said ‘She’s right here, Mama.’

The toothbrush situation really threw me. Sophie insisted that Mimi needed her own toothbrush because ‘sharing is yucky.’ Fair point, I guess? So now we have a tiny pink toothbrush sitting in our bathroom cup holder, waiting for a friend only Sophie can see. Marcus thinks it’s adorable. I’m just wondering how long we’re going to be accommodating our invisible houseguest.

At least Mimi has good manners. According to Sophie, she always says please and thank you, doesn’t throw food, and helps clean up her toys. Honestly, Mimi might be setting a better example than some of the real toddlers I know.
