OBX with a Toddler: A Beautiful Disaster
We just got back from our first family beach trip to the Outer Banks, and wow. Nobody prepared me for vacation with a toddler. I had visions of Sophie building sandcastles and playing in the waves while Marcus and I relaxed with books.

OBX with a Toddler: A Beautiful Disaster
shows Marcus loading approximately seventeen bags for a three-day trip while Sophie ‘helped’ by unpacking everything he’d just organized.
The reality? Sophie spent the first hour eating sand like it was a delicacy. Actual handfuls. Marcus kept trying to redirect her to the water, but she’d run screaming from the waves and go straight back to her sand buffet. She did eventually nap under the umbrella for exactly twenty-three minutes, giving us just enough time to think we were winning before she woke up demanding more ‘beach cookies’ (sand).
Marcus was a champion - he carried everything, set up everything, and chased our sand-eating daughter while I documented it all. Because someone has to get photos, right? Vacation with a toddler really is just parenting in a prettier location. But those twenty-three minutes of peace while she napped? Totally worth the three bags of sandy laundry waiting for me.
