Independence Day (Baby Edition)

👩‍⚕️ Elena 👨‍💻 Marcus 🎭 Sophie

We had such high hopes for Sophie’s first Fourth of July. I packed the diaper bag with snacks, sunscreen, and enough wipes to clean a small army. Marcus brought his camera to capture every precious patriotic moment. We found the perfect spot on the grass, spread out our blanket, and waited for the magic to begin.

The first firework went off and Sophie’s face went from curious to absolutely betrayed in about 0.2 seconds.

The screaming that followed could have been heard three counties over. Marcus immediately went into dad mode, bouncing and shushing while I frantically dug through the diaper bag for… I don’t know, something that would make explosions less terrifying?

We lasted exactly fifteen minutes before admitting defeat and packing up our patriotic dreams. Sophie calmed down the second we got back to the car, like she was personally offended by our choice of entertainment. Note to self: next year we’re watching fireworks from the safety of our living room on YouTube. With the volume down.
