Summer Sessions

So this is my summer: clinical rotations during the day, textbooks at night, and Marcus making me coffee while I highlight every single sentence in my NCLEX prep book like my life depends on it. (It kind of does.)

He’s been so patient with me taking over his kitchen table every night. I spread out with my stethoscope and anatomy charts and he just works around me with his laptop and wireframes.

NCLEX prep mode activated

Sometimes I look up from memorizing drug interactions and catch him sketching logos for some client’s pet store or whatever, and I think - is this what being adults looks like? Because honestly? Not terrible.

I used to think summer break meant sleeping until noon and going to the lake. Now it means pediatric rotations at 6 AM and studying pharmacology until my eyes cross.

But there’s something weirdly comforting about this routine we’ve fallen into. Him making dinner while I quiz myself on cardiac rhythms. Me stealing his hoodies when the AC gets too cold. Both of us too tired to go out but not too tired to stay up talking about everything and nothing.

One more year of school left. Sometimes I can’t believe how fast it’s all going.
