Sister Approval Status: Achieved

So Carmen finally met Marcus yesterday. She came over for dinner and I was honestly a little nervous - not because I care what she thinks (I totally care what she thinks) but because Marcus gets weird around new people and does this thing where he explains graphic design theory unprompted.

But it went well! Marcus only mentioned font hierarchies twice, Carmen laughed at his terrible puns, and nobody brought up my dating history from college. Win-win-win. After he left, Carmen pulled me aside with that look - you know the one, like she’s about to deliver a performance review.

‘He’s cute,’ she said. ‘But he’s a nerd.’ I said ‘I know.’ Long pause. ‘You could do worse.’ And that, ladies and gentlemen, is basically a Vasquez sister seal of approval. Coming from Carmen, ‘you could do worse’ translates to ‘I genuinely like him and think he’s good for you but I’m not going to get all sentimental about it.’ I’ll take it.

Now I just have to survive him meeting Mom and Dad next weekend. Pray for us.
